PRE-WWII USN TRANSPORT COAT

700.00

Extremely rare 1930s U.S. military "transport" coat worn by U.S.N/U.S.C.G. officers and NCOs in pre-WWII service. Features include a generous brown sheepskin mackinaw storm collar, double breasted front closure with horsehide buttonhole tabs on either side (allowing for right or left crossover fastening), a horsehide button chinstrap, horsehide trimmed flap pockets that can be worn tucked or untucked, and a beautiful beige cotton moleskin twill shell. Thick sheepskin lined body & wool lined sleeves with hidden wool knit cuffs. This historic coat was built to not only weather the harshest conditions but also the test of time...a must-have for any serious collector.

LABEL READS

No label. Manufacturer unknown. "44" stamped on the inside of the left front hemline.

GREAT VINTAGE CONDITION

Honest wear, but surprisingly in tact considering garment's age. Some minor staining on moleskin shell, and yellowing on sheepskin lining. Sheepskin lining was hemmed with some kind of waxed fabric that has stained the white cotton pocket lining, and inside of the moleskin shell (some staining has come through to back exterior). Repairs on/near the sheepskin collar. Horsehide buttonhole tabs on right side are a bit stretched, but are in excellent shape on left side. Stitching coming out a bit on interior lining by number stamp. No perceivable holes or tears.
